The Anglican Diocese of Wiawso, the 9th of the 11 dioceses in Ghana, was carved out from the Diocese of Sekondi in the Western Region. The Diocesan Bishop of Sekondi on January 23, 2006, SIGNED A STATEMENT RELINQUISHING JURISDICTION OVER PARISHES IN THE PROPOSED DIOCESE OF WIAWSO: CANON V
The Diocese of Wiawwso was duly inaugurated on Saturday, 18th February, 2006, and the first Diocesan Bishop in the person of Rt. Rev. Abraham Kobina Ackah was consecrated and enthroned on the 10th and 11th of June, 2006 respectively. Bishop Ackah retired at the compulsory retirement age of seventy (70) years on 13th December, 2021.
The Diocese is coterminous with seven of the nine Municipal and District Assemblies of the recently-created Western North Region of Ghana:
